The different types of poker chips.

Ceramic Poker chip

Many casinos around the world use ceramic poker chips. Ceramic chips are the most durable than any clay composites. Ceramic chips have a smooth surface and the graphics are printed directly on the chip as opposed to an inlay or sticker used on Clay Composite Chips. Most of these chips are 39mm in diameter and weigh around 10 grams. Many styles have the edge spots aligned to match the face of the chips. These chips are sometimes a preference for some poker players and often are cheaper than high quality Clay Composites.

Composite Poker Chips

Composite can be literally translated as 2 or more materials with different chemical characteristics engineered together.  Clay Composite means Clay Material along with anything else.  This means any retailer can advertise their chips as Clay Composite if any part of the chip has clay and any other material.  That means technically a chip can be 95% Plastic and 5% Clay or 50% Clay and 50% Metal and be advertised as a Clay Composite. With so many different retailers and poker chips types it’s almost impossible to find out what you are buying until you purchase it.  Alot of Clay Composite sets are 39 mm diameter casino sized chips and are 11.5 grams in weight.  They are manufactured in all different ways.  Any Composite with a metal insert isn't a high quality chip.  High quality clay composite chips have no metal insert.  They will be 10 grams and be Compression molded.

Paulson

All chips have a multi-colored edge design you see in casinos. These chips have an inlay that is sealed to the chip. No pealing or staining on these chips. It is a linen type finish, which allows them to be cleaned with warm water and mild soap. This protection also makes nearly impossible for someone to take the logo off, without ruining the chip. The TopHat and Cane Logo are synonymous with Paulson. Paulson poker sets sell from anywhere between $350 to more than $1000. Most Paulson sets have older designs and cater to the old poker player rather than the new era of players.

Tab Chips

Tab Chips are Clay Composites.  They have no metal insert and are made using the highest quality materials.  The Uniquee composite gives the Tab Chips a feel unlike any other poker chip.  The casino grade sticker and composite colors take the Tab H Set to a new level of poker chips.
